Bali is a part of the country Indonesia.

The island of Bali has an area of 5,5 square kilometers.

The Province of Bali is divided into 9 districts (8 regencies and 1 municipality).

The capital is Denpasar.

The airport is called Ngurah Rai but is closer located to Jimbaran.

The time zone is GMT + 8.

The currency in Indonesia is the Indonesian Rupiah. The rate fluctuate a lot and is subject to changes but basically the exchange rate for one USD is between 12.000 and 14.000 rupiah (2016).

When visiting a money changer, which are located every where along the main roads in the tourist area. Be aware that they often try to cheat, although with a smile. Please count your money careful before leaving the money changer.

The Population of Bali is close to 4 million and growing at a fast pace.

Balinese is the dialect spoken only on the island of Bali. Bahasa Indonesia is the official language of the country. English is spoken well and very common in all touristy areas.

More than 80% of population is Hindu in Bali. And a caste system is still active. There are festivals and celebrations around the year. The most important one is Nyepi (Balinese New Year) and Galungan (every 6 months).

Popular Places to Visit:

Sanur, Seminyak, Canggu, Batu Bolong, along the coast. Ubud and the mountains in land of Bali.

Small island close to Bali and worth visiting are Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and the Gili Islands close the Lombok.

A very popular lake to visit is lake Beratan, near Bedugul and know as the vegetable and strawberry area.

Bali knows two seasons: The wet and dry season.

The best time to visit Bali is during the dry season, which is from April/May to September/OctoberThe Wet season is from November to March and is very humid and has tropical rain showers, often during a part of the day.

Bali has something to offer for just everybody:

You can surf the famous waves in the Bukit area, shop till you drop from Kuta to Seminyak, visit the temples of Tanah Lot and Uluwatu or explore the real Bali in the mountains. Witness a ceremony or enjoy the beaches. Whatever your choice may be; we like to share some words of advice:

  • Be care full consuming local alcohol or the cheap cocktails offered. They are often a mix with the dangerous methanol in it. As in general Alcoholic beverages are more expensive as we know them.
  • Bali is a paradise but small crime; bag snatching, stealing and robbery and other crime has arrived as a normal routine of daily live on Bali.
  • No need to say that Bali is a part of Indonesian and the country carries a death penalty for the use or trafficking of any kind of drugs.
  • Say no to plastic bags.
